The next award was the Gas Industry Energy Efficiency Award, sponsored by the Baxi Group. Mark Kelly, Chief Executive Officer of Baxi Group, UK & Ireland presented the award to British Gas for their Green Streets Project.
“This pioneering experiment in which 64 households competed with each other to reduce their energy consumptions has clearly demonstrated the power of a community wide approach to tackling the challenge of improving home energy efficiency.”

British Gas has announced plans to accelerate the roll-out of its smart meter programme and install two million smart meters in customers’ homes by 2012. This will allow households to take early advantage of smart meter technology – including real time, on-screen information. British Gas has brought together six worldleading companies to assemble its smart meter system.
The partner companies include Vodafone; SAP; OSIsoft and Trilliant; and global smart meter manufacturer, Landis+Gyr. The Zigbee Smart Energy global wireless home area network standard will be used to link up the in-home devices.
