GDPCR

SBGI Utility Networks provided responses to the Open letter consultation on Gas Distribution Price Control Review 2 (GDPCR2) – the way forward. Additionally, the Division has gained a seat on the stakeholder forum group that will oversee and provide input to Ofgem on key aspects of the price control reviews for Electricity and Gas Transmission and Gas Distribution.

This will help keep members informed about the reviews that will conclude in April 2013, and provide a route to get members views heard. SBGI Utility Networks organised its second Smart Metering workshop in April, following on from the initial event in November 2009, which again proved popular with around
forty delegates attending. Introduced by SBGI Services Manager, Gary Cottrell, the event covered useful subject matter and raised interesting debate.

David Robinson, representing both BEAMA and ESMIG, presented the Electricity industries view on Smart Metering and gave an update on ESMIG’S activities. Looking at the implications of smart in the energy industry, Dean Marshallsay, of consulting firm Artesia, reviewed the potential opportunities this raised for smart water metering.

Alan Nunn, Head of Future Business Applications & Services for BT Innovate & Design, suggested that smart metering is the beginning of a longer journey to smart homes, giving some examples of what the networked home might look like. Finally, Steve Edwards, Head of Technology and Business Development at British Gas Smart Metering, updated delegates on their Smart Metering Project and plans to deploy 2 million smart meters by the end 2012.
